Our fight

This why we fight. Because he was never able to hold his two grandchildren born shortly before he died. Because they will grow up without ever getting to know their grampy, because he will never be able to get on the floor and play with them, he will never be able to hug them, kiss them, because he will never be able to tak them to Disney Land like he always said he would! This is why we fight!

Stubbron Buffalo Events

This is my first post for our event series. I will try to update as we progress with planning of our events and updating on our successes.
What is Stubborn Buffalo Events? Well, let me start from teh beginning.
In Oct.2005 after almost of year of suffering with muscle twitches and unexplained trips and falls. Our father, Adelard Van Praet, was diagnosed with ALS.
ALS is short for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
What it does is agressively rob its victims of the abilty to move under their own accord. Leaving vicitms paralyzed while there mind is completely unaffected. Making them a prisioner in their own bodies. ALS is a fatal disease.
To watch the strongest man I have ever known, deterioate into a shell of the man he used to be was one of the hardest things I have experienced in my lifetime.
Even through it all he fought. He fought will all the power and life he had in him, never giving up.
He is also by far the most stubborn person that I have ever known.
From his struggle and our feeling of being powerless against the fight. We have created Stubborn Buffalo Events. http://www.stubbornbuffalo.ca/
The series has 3 annual events held, a spinathon, a golf tourney and a running race. The goal is to bring awarness to this horrible disease and to help raise money to support its victims.
Currently we are looking for volunteers and sponsors to help us keep this serises running and benifitting those who suffer.

Check out this website. All money raised from our events goes directly to this non -profit organizaion. They have been offering serivces and comfort to Chatham Kent for more than 25 years.
